Hi everyone

I started on Enbrel injections about two months ago but unfortunately I have failed miserably. The Enbrel is causing bad skin infections. I stopped it for a couple of weeks and the infection cleared up. Started again a week last Saturday and the same has happened again. The Rheumy Department have this afternoon decided I must be allergic to it.

Barbara if you are reading this post I hope that Enbrel is your saviour. Each person is different and you will hopefully be ok on it.

However, there is some light at the end of the tunnel. They are going to get me in to see the Consultant again to discuss changing over to Humira. As I have had a bad reaction to Enbrel within the first six months, apparantly I am able to change over.

We had a visitor at work today and he asked me why I was walking with a walking stick. I explained I had RA and he said "me too". It is the first time I have ever had chance to talk to someone face to face with this disease and to be honest I could have talked to him all day. It was so good to be able to swap stories and actually have someone understand what we go through with RA. He is on Humira and had a dramatic improvement within days of taking it. He still has mobility problems but feels a lot better in himself so I am keeping my fingers crossed.

I know quite a few of you on this sight are on Humira so I am hoping this choice will be the right choice. For me to keep on working, they are going to have to come up with a solution as I am starting to really struggle even being able to work from home two days a week. I am the only bread winner as my Husband had to take early medical retirement so I really need to keep the money coming in. I love my job and would feel totally lost without it. I just worry that if I did have to give up work, what are the chances of getting benefits nowadays.

Anyway hopefully Humira will be my miracle "cure".

I`m really sorry the enbrel hasn`t worked out for you, and I hope you have better luck with humira. For me it`s been great, so I hope it does the trick for you.

He had not heard about the NRAS. I fully informed him what a wonderful bunch you were and how he would be able to learn so much more about RA from
real people as opposed to Doctors. I also said he could get comfort and support as well as having a good old fashioned laugh. Hopefully we may have one
more male member soon.

I have to wait for an appointment with my Consultant to change from the Enbrel to Humira. Once I had approval last time, the funding was authorised in a week and the Nurse came out to see me to show me how to inject the following week. I was very impressed with how quick it was all dealt with. Hopefully the appointment's bureau will be as efficient.

Sorry to read you have had to stop Enbrel, when I started it I had skin reactions thankfully when my system got used to it I was able to continue on it. Fingers crossed Humira will do the trick for you.
